Total Supply
The total number of tokens that exist for a cryptocurrency, including those not yet in circulation.
Explained Simply
Total supply is the number of coins or tokens that have been created minus any that have been burned. It differs from circulating supply (tokens currently available for trading) and max supply (the hard cap that can ever exist). Bitcoin has a max supply of 21 million, with a circulating supply of about 19.5 million. Understanding supply metrics is essential for valuation — a low-priced token with billions in total supply may have a massive fully diluted valuation. Always check total supply before evaluating whether a token is 'cheap.'
Example
A token priced at $0.001 seems cheap, but if total supply is 1 trillion tokens, the fully diluted market cap is $1 billion.
