Satoshi
The smallest unit of Bitcoin, equal to 0.00000001 BTC (one hundred millionth).
Explained Simply
A satoshi (sat) is named after Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. One Bitcoin equals 100 million satoshis. As Bitcoin's price rises, thinking in satoshis becomes practical — you might buy 50,000 sats instead of 0.0005 BTC. The Lightning Network operates in satoshis for micropayments. Some people 'stack sats' — regularly buying small amounts of Bitcoin. At $90,000 per BTC, one satoshi is worth $0.0009.
Example
Buying $10 of Bitcoin at $90,000/BTC gets you about 11,111 satoshis (0.00011111 BTC).
